Who is Jean Chatzky?

Jean Chatzky is an American personal finance journalist and author. According to Wikipedia, she was born on September 7, 1964, in Michigan and holds a BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Her career listed there runs through Working Woman magazine (1986), equity research at Dean Witter Reynolds (1989-1991), Forbes, SmartMoney (1992-1997) and Money magazine. HerMoney's own about page describes her as the former financial editor of NBC's TODAY, a coach on the PBS show Opportunity Knocks and financial ambassador for AARP; a Yahoo Finance interview by Max Zahn with Andy Serwer (March 9, 2019) dates her TODAY role to 1995 and also mentions advisory work for AARP and Fidelity Investments.

In 2018 she co-founded HerMoney Media, Inc., a personal finance media company aimed at women, where she is CEO. She hosts the HerMoney with Jean Chatzky podcast, and HerMoney also produces How She Does It with Karen Finerman. Wikipedia lists her as co-host of Everyday Wealth with Soledad O'Brien and Jean Chatzky, launched in January 2022. On TikTok (@jeanchatzky, linked from jeanchatzky.com) she had about 14,200 followers when read on September 14, 2026. Her site also links Instagram, Facebook and X accounts; those follower counts were not recorded.

What she sells runs through HerMoney. InvestingFixx is an investing club co-hosted with Karen Finerman, CEO of Metropolitan Capital Advisors and a CNBC Fast Money panelist. Its sales page lists live Zoom sessions every other Monday from 8:00 to 9:00 PM ET, recordings, member votes on portfolio decisions, weekly newsletters and a private Q&A chat group. It costs $39 per month or $395 per year after a free first month. FinanceFixx is a small-group financial coaching program with a dedicated coach, weekly one-hour Zoom sessions, one-on-one coaching and a portal with videos and assignments. In the HerMoney Shop, the 6-Week FinanceFixx for Pre-Retirees costs $395 and could be added to the cart on September 14, 2026, with an October 1 start date. The 4-Week FinanceFixx ($299) showed session dates as "Coming Soon", with a note that a new curriculum and 2026 schedule were being prepared.

She also writes books that teach personal finance. Wikipedia lists Pay It Down (2006), Money Rules (2012) and AgeProof (2017, with Michael F. Roizen), and HerMoney lists How To Money, co-written with Kathryn Tuggle. Her latest, The Forever Paycheck: The New Retirement Strategy to Spend More, Worry Less, and Never Run Out of Money, came out from Avery (Penguin Random House) on September 8, 2026, at a $32.00 hardcover list price. Her website says it reached the Wall Street Journal, Amazon and New York Times bestseller lists; we did not check this against the lists themselves. She also takes paid speaking work, including keynotes, moderating and panels.

On her reputation, the record checked is as follows. Wikipedia lists a Clarion Award (2002), a Betty Furness Consumer Media Service Award (2009) and a Gracie Award (2012). No individual record under the name Chatzky appeared in FINRA BrokerCheck or the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure (IAPD) database, searched on September 14, 2026. Her Dean Witter research job ended in 1991, and older records may not show up there. A search of ftc.gov returned no page mentioning Chatzky, also on September 14, 2026. Past participants' savings figures on the FinanceFixx page are HerMoney's own promotional claims, and we found no independent source for them.
