Who is Jordan Belfort?

Jordan Belfort is an American sales trainer, author and speaker, born on July 9, 1962, in Queens, New York, according to Biography.com. He co-founded the brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont in 1989. His memoirs, The Wolf of Wall Street and Catching the Wolf of Wall Street, were the basis for Martin Scorsese's 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street, in which Leonardo DiCaprio played him.

His online store, jb.online, lists Global Motivation, Inc. as the company behind the site in its terms of use. On YouTube he publishes as "The Wolf of Wall Street" (@wolfofwallst), with 819,000 subscribers, and on TikTok as @wolfofwallstreet, with about 3.6 million followers, both read on September 16, 2026.

What he sells is built around his "Straight Line" sales and persuasion method. On September 16, 2026, jb.online listed the Straight Line Sales Certification at $3,999 (shown against a crossed-out $7,998), Straight Line Persuasion at $498.50, Straight Line Fast Track at $249.50, Script Builder at $299, Straight Line Marketing at $299 and a digital copy of the Stratton Oakmont Manual at $149. Several of these courses are offered in English and Spanish. The store describes the certification as twelve courses of six to ten lessons each, plus the Script Builder and a rebuttals guide. For companies, the site offers a corporate training program in tiered plans without published prices, where the buyer applies to speak with the team, and a booking form for keynotes, live events and private consulting, also without prices. His sales method is also published as a book, Way of the Wolf (Gallery Books, 2017).

The site states that he "has created more million-dollar producers than any other sales trainer in history" and that he has consulted for more than 50 publicly traded companies. These are his own claims and no independent source confirming them was found.

His legal history is public. Stratton Oakmont was the subject of SEC enforcement from 1992 and was liquidated in 1997, according to Biography.com. In 1999 Belfort pleaded guilty to federal securities and money laundering charges and cooperated with prosecutors. In October 2003, U.S. District Judge John Gleeson sentenced him to 42 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release and ordered $110,362,993.87 in restitution, with 50% of his monthly gross income during supervised release going to a court-appointed trustee for the victims, according to a June 2014 order in the case (Eastern District of New York, 98-CR-0859); the victim list held by the court had more than 1,300 names. Biography.com says he served 22 months, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator shows him released on April 28, 2006. In the 2014 order the judge wrote that the 50% payment obligation had ended with his supervised release, that he still owed over $100 million and that the Department of Justice could pursue collection by other means. In May 2018, Bloomberg, as republished by InvestmentNews, reported that federal prosecutors in Brooklyn said in court papers that he had paid about $12.8 million, mostly from property given up at sentencing, still owed about $97 million and had kept income from speaking engagements; his attorney said he was cash-strapped and disputed the government's figures, and U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly ordered him to appear to answer questions about his income. On November 30, 2018, Judge Donnelly granted the government a writ of continuing garnishment on his membership interests in Delos Living, LLC, according to a victim notice from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York. Under federal law (18 U.S.C. § 3613(b)), liability to pay restitution ends 20 years after the entry of judgment or 20 years after release from prison, whichever is later, which with the release date recorded by the Bureau of Prisons points to April 28, 2026. On July 13, 2026, TMZ reported, citing unnamed sources, that his obligation expired on that date, and published a statement in which Belfort said he had completed his court-ordered restitution and had "lived with the consequences" of his past for nearly three decades.

Not confirmed: how many people have bought or completed his courses, the results his site attributes to his students, and the total amount of restitution paid by the time the obligation ended: the last figure found in court papers is the roughly $12.8 million cited by prosecutors in 2018, and no court filing or Justice Department statement confirming the end of the obligation or a final amount was located in this review (CourtListener's copy of the docket, the USAO EDNY site and govinfo.gov checked on September 16, 2026). His Instagram follower count (@wolfofwallst) could not be read reliably.
