Who is Andrew Ng?

Andrew Ng is a British-American computer scientist who works in artificial intelligence and online education. According to Wikipedia, he was born on April 18, 1976, in London and lives in California. His official website lists a B.Sc. from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.Sc. from MIT and a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley, and describes him as an adjunct professor at Stanford University, where he previously directed the Stanford AI Lab.

His official website lists his current roles as founder of DeepLearning.AI, Managing General Partner of AI Fund, Managing Partner of AI Aspire, Executive Chairman of LandingAI, and Chairman and co-founder of Coursera. The same page says he was the founding lead of Google Brain and served as Vice President and Chief Scientist at Baidu. Amazon announced his appointment to its board of directors effective April 9, 2024. TechCrunch reported the launch of DeepLearning.AI as a series of deep learning classes on Coursera on August 8, 2017.

He publishes on X (@AndrewYNg) and LinkedIn. The DeepLearning.AI YouTube channel, a company channel rather than a personal one, showed 716K subscribers when read on September 13, 2026.

His courses are sold in two places. On Coursera, the Machine Learning Specialization (with Stanford Online) is sold through a $49 per month subscription, and AI for Everyone lists a $49 course price for certificate eligibility; the Deep Learning Specialization page says it is free to enroll with a paid certificate but does not show an amount. On DeepLearning.AI, course videos can be watched for free, and graded assignments and certificates require the DeepLearning.AI Pro membership, listed at $25 per month billed annually or $30 per month billed monthly. Pro courses taught by Ng include Agentic AI and Build with Andrew. His website states that more than 8 million people have taken an AI class from him; this is his own figure and there is no independent source for it.

He was included in the Time100 AI list in 2023, according to his official website. In interviews, such as one with NBC News published on December 27, 2025, he has argued against restrictive AI regulation and has said current AI is highly limited. A web search on September 13, 2026, returned no FTC action or court case under his name; the FTC's own search page could not be loaded that day, so that registry was not checked directly.
