Ethan Mollick is an American academic and author. He is an associate professor of management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he holds the title of Ralph J. Roberts Distinguished Faculty Scholar and co-directs the Generative AI Labs at Wharton. His research covers artificial intelligence, innovation, entrepreneurship and education. According to Wikipedia he was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1975; TIME gave his age as 51 in July 2026. He holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard University and an MBA and PhD from MIT Sloan School of Management. Before his academic career he co-founded a startup, identified on Wikipedia as eMeta Corporation.
He writes the Substack newsletter One Useful Thing, which states on its subscribe page that it has over 475,000 subscribers (read September 14, 2026). TIME's 2026 TIME100 Creators profile (July 14, 2026) cited more than 400,000 LinkedIn followers. He does not run a personal YouTube channel located in this research; his talks appear on channels such as the Wharton School's, including a Wharton Interactive crash course on practical AI co-taught with Lilach Mollick. The Generative AI Labs at Wharton publish a free prompt library under a Creative Commons license.
His paid offering is mainly books, speaking and university programs. Co-Intelligence: Living and Working with AI (Portfolio, April 2, 2024) is a practical guide to using generative AI at work and in education; Penguin Random House lists the hardcover at $30.00. A second AI book, Co-Existence: The Next Phase of AI, is announced by Portfolio for October 20, 2026 and is available for pre-order. He was named to the TIME100 AI list in 2024 and the TIME100 Creators list in 2026, and his Wharton profile lists the Poets & Quants MBA Professor of the Year award (2024). Co-Intelligence has received critical reviews as well as praise: a review titled "The process is the product" in the Springer journal AI and Ethics (2024) is among the published critiques. No FTC action was found under his name, searched on ftc.gov on September 14, 2026. His business consists of books, teaching and speaking rather than investment services, so SEC or FINRA records were not relevant. Fees for his keynotes and team sessions could not be confirmed from public sources.
