Ezra Firestone is an American ecommerce entrepreneur and marketing educator. He told Mixergy in a May 2017 interview that he grew up on a commune in California, moved to New York at 18 to play poker and got into online marketing around 2005, first as a freelance consultant. His first online store, MyCostumeWigs.com, launched in 2007 and was sold in 2012, according to Smart Marketer's about page. No public source consulted gives his date of birth or age.
He is behind three companies. BOOM! by Cindy Joseph is a cosmetics line for older women that he co-founded in 2010 with the model and makeup artist Cindy Joseph, who has since died (Shopify Masters, December 3, 2019). Smart Marketer, his training company, was founded in 2013 according to its own site. Zipify, a maker of Shopify apps such as OneClickUpsell and Zipify Pages, was founded in 2016 according to its about page. In a Smart Marketer post dated September 3, 2021 he said BOOM! had been partially sold that year; the buyer and the price were not disclosed. Revenue figures for these businesses come from his own statements in interviews and on his company sites (for example, $17.8 million for BOOM! in 2016 in the Mixergy interview, and "$115 million in revenue" over five years in a May 2021 Practical Ecommerce interview) and have no independent verification.
He publishes mainly through Smart Marketer: its YouTube channel (@SmartMarketerYT, linked from smartmarketer.com) had about 34,500 subscribers when read on September 14, 2026, alongside a blog, a podcast and an X account. He has also been a frequent guest on ecommerce podcasts, including Shopify Masters, Mixergy and Practical Ecommerce's Ecommerce Conversations.
Smart Marketer sells self-paced video courses. On September 14, 2026, Smart Ecommerce, Smart Product Creation, Smart Email Marketing and Smart Business Exit were each listed at $1,497 one-time or three payments of $565, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Ezra Firestone is the lead instructor only on Smart Ecommerce: Smart Product Creation is taught mainly by Adam Von Rothfelder, Smart Email Marketing by John Grimshaw, and Smart Business Exit by advisers from the brokerage Quiet Light, with Firestone as guest instructor. The top tier, Mentor Table (promoted on the home page as Ezra's Ecommerce Mastermind), requires an application, a 45-minute intro call and at least $1.5 million in trailing 12-month revenue; its price is not published. The company also runs Smart Marketer Live, a two-day event held October 20-21, 2026 at the Denver Art Museum, with early-bird single tickets at $897.
On reputation, what can be checked is limited. His business story has been covered in interview form by Shopify, Mixergy and Practical Ecommerce, which relay his own figures rather than audit them. A web search on September 14, 2026 for his name together with "FTC", "lawsuit" and "attorney general" returned no enforcement action or court case under his name; the FTC's own site search could not be loaded that day, so that check is incomplete. No independent review of student results from Smart Marketer courses was located.
