Laura Belgray is a copywriter based in New York City, where, according to her own website, she grew up. Her About page says she graduated from Wesleyan University and spent more than two decades writing professionally: first ad copy for SPY Magazine and New York Magazine, then TV promos and branded content for networks including Bravo, NBC, HBO, TBS, Nick at Nite, Nickelodeon, TV Land and FX. The same page credits her with a Promax Best of Show award for the TV Land campaign "Tony 'n' T: TV Land In Demand". Her year of birth does not appear on her website or on the publisher's author page.
She founded Talking Shrimp in 2009, according to her website, and in 2015 co-created The Copy Cure, an online copywriting course led with Marie Forleo. Marie Forleo's sales page for The Copy Cure presents her as co-leader of the program.
In June 2023 Hachette published her book Tough Titties: On Living Your Best Life When You're the F-ing Worst, a collection of humorous personal essays, in paperback, ebook and audiobook. Her book page describes it as a national bestseller, a Goodreads Choice Awards finalist and a Best of Audible pick; those labels are quoted from her own promotional material.
She publishes mainly through her email newsletter and her Instagram account @laurabelgray, which her book page links to. Her follower count could not be read reliably, so it is not recorded here. She appears frequently as a guest on marketing and business podcasts, such as The Copywriter Club and Duct Tape Marketing.
Most of what she sells is self-paced copywriting training on talkingshrimp.com. The prices published on her own pages are: 60-Minute Makeovers, a downloadable PDF mini-course, $99; the About Page Builder, $199; and Book Launch Hero, $299 for the masterclass or $499 for the full kit (or three monthly payments of $167). Inbox Hero, her email makeover course, has a sales page with a three-payment option, but the full price was not visible when the page was read. Launch Hero, Email Cash Cow and the Welcome Sequence Workshop are listed without a price. Her product pages say "All sales final" for the digital downloads. The Copy Cure opens for enrollment about once a year, and its sales page on marieforleo.com showed a waitlist and no price when checked. Her most expensive program is Shrimp Club, an eight-month group mentoring program joined by application. It includes two group "hot seat" calls per month, recorded Q&A sessions, a private Facebook group, an in-person retreat and her digital course library, and its application page lists $16,000 paid in full or nine monthly payments of $2,127. She also advertises BINGEWORTHY LIVE, a two-day in-person writing retreat in New York planned for March 2027, with a waitlist and no published ticket price.
Revenue and student results on her pages are her own claims. For example, the Inbox Hero page quotes a customer who says they made $949,156.28 in 12 months from an email list. No independent source for these figures has been found. Her media kit lists speaking appearances at industry events such as Traffic and Conversion and Copy Chief Live, and her website lists mentions in ELLE, Fast Company, Money, Forbes and Business Insider. This profile does not cite those mentions as independent coverage because the specific articles were not located. A web search for her name together with FTC, lawsuit and attorney general, run on September 14, 2026, found no action or court case naming her. Her company's state registration could not be checked because the OpenCorporates search page was blocked by a verification challenge.
