Suze Orman

Suze Orman is an American personal finance author and broadcaster, born on June 5, 1951, in Chicago, according to Wikipedia. She holds a B.A. in social work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She hosted The Suze Orman Show on CNBC from 2002 to 2015 and has written a long series of personal finance books, including Women & Money, The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom and The Ultimate Retirement Guide for 50+.

Before her media career she worked in the securities industry. FINRA BrokerCheck lists her as Suze Lynn Orman (CRD 713719) with registrations at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith (1980-1983), Prudential-Bache Securities (1984-1987, per the detailed report) and P & I Equities Corporation (1988-1991; firm CRD 4149, shown in the BrokerCheck summary under the later name Legend Capital Corporation), and passed exams for the Series 7, 63, 5, 3 and 2. As of September 14, 2026, BrokerCheck shows no current FINRA registration, and the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure database lists her as not in scope as an investment adviser.

Her BrokerCheck detailed report contains one final regulatory disclosure. The regulator's entry (Form U6, dated April 29, 1988) records the suspension of the investment adviser certificate issued to Suze Lynn Orman, doing business as Suze Orman Financial Group, from May 3 to May 31, 1988, with no docket number. Her own entry lists the action as administrative, initiated by the Department of Corporations, with no allegations stated and a result of a 30-day license suspension. In her statement she attributes it to a 1987 dispute with an employee who alleged she was operating without a license, says no cause was given for the suspension, and says a court later ruled in her favor and ordered the employee to pay restitution. No other disclosure appears on the report, which FINRA notes holds only limited information because her registration ended before August 1999.

Her products are sold through Suze Orman Media Inc., which operates suzeorman.com, and through Hay House, the publisher that has been her long-standing partner. She is also listed as a co-founder of SecureSave, an employer-sponsored emergency savings account startup that HSA Bank, a division of Webster Bank, acquired in December 2025.

She publishes the podcast Suze Orman's Women & Money (And Everyone Smart Enough to Listen) and a YouTube channel, @SuzeOrman, which showed about 127,000 subscribers on September 14, 2026.

What she sells, per her official store: the 9 Steps to Financial Independence Online Course ($199), Suze Orman's Online Personal Finance Course ($54, seven lessons) and Suze Orman's 3 Step Reset Online Course ($54), all digital and sold by Suze Orman Media Inc. The MUST HAVE Documents Online Program, operated by Hay House, generates a revocable living trust, will, financial power of attorney and advance directive from a questionnaire; its page listed a regular price of $297 with a limited-time price of $153. Hay House also sells The Ultimate Protection Pak for 18+, with young-adult powers of attorney, without a price on the page reviewed. Her books are sold through major retailers.

On reputation, what can be checked: between 2012 and 2014 she backed The Approved Card, a prepaid debit card issued by The Bancorp Bank; it stopped working on July 1, 2014, as reported by American Banker on June 17, 2014, citing The New York Times, with no statement from Orman in that article. In 2020 the FTC sent refunds to people harmed by a work-from-home scheme whose spam emails falsely suggested endorsements by celebrities including Orman; she was not a party to that case. A search of ftc.gov for her name on September 14, 2026, returned no enforcement action against her. Her age and broadcasting awards (two Emmys, per Wikipedia) are documented; claims in her own marketing about outcomes for buyers have no independent source.
