Jon Benson is an American direct response copywriter. According to his own website, he was born in Texas, started out as a fitness author after a heart attack at age 38, and later moved into online marketing. His fitness titles included Fit Over 40, The Every Other Day Diet and 7 Minute Muscle (2008). He is widely credited with creating the "ugly" video sales letter: a video with plain text on screen read aloud by a voiceover. His own site dates it to 2007; other pages of his describe it as 2006. In the I Love Marketing podcast with Joe Polish and Dean Jackson, he explained that he found the format while testing simple videos against more polished ones.
His current business is BNSN (bnsn.ai), an AI copywriting platform for ads, emails, sales letters and funnels. Its pages name him as founder and CEO and his wife, Olya Benson, as vice president and one of the coaches. Earlier products listed on his site include 3X VSL, Sellerator, Now VSL (nowvsl.com now redirects to BNSN) and CopyPro. BNSN checkout pages carry the notice "Jon Benson / Digital Publisher LLC / BNSN.ai". A California company named Digital Publisher LLC appears on OpenCorporates, but we could not confirm from the record that it is his.
He publishes on YouTube as "Jon Benson | AI Selling Secrets" (@JonBensonSalesCopySecrets), which showed 30.3K subscribers and 189 videos on September 14, 2026. He is also on Instagram, Facebook and X as @itsjonbenson and on LinkedIn. His site says he now lives in Florida.
What he sells: a BNSN subscription, which on bnsn.ai lists Base at $49/month, Pro at $99/month and Plus at $1,499/year, all with weekly live coaching on Fridays and access to the Conversion Lab community, plus a 7-day refund guarantee. A separate BNSN checkout offers 90 days for $199, then $99/month. AI Copy Academy (AICA) is described on its sales page as a 12-week AI copywriting certification with video training and live coaching. An archived checkout from January 13, 2026 lists $3,997 or three payments of $1,497, and in September 2026 the page no longer loaded. Private consulting (OfferX) is by application only. His consulting page lists $5,000 per hour, $25,000 for a virtual day and $35,000 for an in-person day. He also wrote the Kindle book Open, Click, Buy (2016) on email marketing.
Reputation: the sales figures linked to his name, such as over $12 billion generated by VSLs and over $1 billion for clients, come from his own promotional material, and we found no independent source for them. His site lists media mentions (Entrepreneur, Fast Company, Forbes, Wired, Maxim), but we did not find those articles in the searches for this profile. The coverage we did find consists of podcast interviews. No FTC action was found under his name or under BNSN or Digital Publisher, searched on ftc.gov on September 14, 2026.
