Australian personal trainer, co-founder and head trainer of the Sweat fitness app, known for the Bikini Body Guides (BBG) workout programs.
Kayla Itsines is an Australian personal trainer from Adelaide, South Australia, born on May 21, 1991, according to Wikipedia. Sweat's trainer page describes her as a certified personal trainer since 2008, also certified in pregnancy and postnatal exercise, and as co-founder and head trainer of the company. Forbes Australia (Anastasia Santoreneos, February 23, 2024) reported that she began by training clients in her parents' backyard in 2009 and started posting client transformations on Instagram in 2013.
With Tobi Pearce she co-founded The Bikini Body Training Company Pty Ltd, the entity named as seller of the Sweat app on the US App Store and in the footer of sweat.com. The Bikini Body Guides were first sold as downloadable PDF guides in 2014, and the Sweat app followed in 2015. In July 2021 the business was acquired by US company iFIT; reported figures for that deal differ between outlets and no official amount was published. In November 2023 Itsines and Pearce bought the app back for an undisclosed sum, as reported by Startup Daily (Simon Thomsen, November 27, 2023), with Adam Koch staying on as CEO. Fortune (January 30, 2026) also covered her investments outside fitness, including a petrol station she bought early on.
Her main public channel is Instagram (@kayla_itsines). Forbes Australia put her following at about 16 million on Instagram and 20 million on Facebook in February 2024, and Fortune cited 15.6 million Instagram followers in January 2026. The brand account @sweat is the one linked from kaylaitsines.com.
What she sells is access to her training programs inside the Sweat app, which is subscription-based with a 7-day free trial. Her trainer page lists 16 programs, including OG Kayla (the original guide format), High Intensity with Kayla, High Intensity Strength, High Intensity Zero Equipment, Strength with Kayla, Low Impact with Kayla, and pregnancy and post-pregnancy programs. The app also includes programs from other trainers and a recipe library. In May 2021 she renamed the BBG programs (BBG became High Intensity with Kayla), saying on her blog that the original name reflected an outdated view of fitness; the workouts themselves were not changed. On the US App Store, in-app purchases listed on September 13, 2026 include a Sweat with Kayla Subscription at $19.99, monthly Sweat subscriptions at $13.99, $19.99 and $24.99, a quarterly subscription at $54.99 and a yearly subscription at $134.99. She is also the author of two books published by St. Martin's Press: The Bikini Body 28-Day Healthy Eating & Lifestyle Guide (December 2016) and The Bikini Body Motivation & Habits Guide (2017).
On reputation, the documented items are legal ones. In 2015 Itsines and Pearce sued YouTubers Leanne Ratcliffe and Harley Johnstone in the Supreme Court of South Australia over videos claiming the Bikini Body Guide program starved people and that Pearce used steroids; The Daily Beast (Justin Jones, March 24, 2015) reported the claims and both sides' statements, and Wikipedia records that the case settled out of court. In October 2023, while Sweat was still owned by iFIT, The Bikini Body Training Company sought an injunction in the Supreme Court of South Australia to stop former trainer Cass Olholm from launching a rival app before her non-compete ended; ABC News (Shari Hams, October 3, 2023) reported that the judge rejected the interim application. No FTC action was found under her name or The Bikini Body Training Company, searched on ftc.gov on September 13, 2026. Company revenue and member figures (such as Fortune's mention of 50 million community members) come from the company or its founders and have no independent verification.
Not confirmed: the current US list price of her books, the final outcome of the Olholm case after the interim ruling, and a reliable current follower count read directly from Instagram.
